Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme offers monetary benefits to pregnant and lactating mothers who have lost their job owing to pregnancy. This scheme was launched by our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2017, which offers an incentive of Rs.5,000 to fulfill maternal needs and child health conditions.
Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- The main objective to introduce PMMVY is to ensure women get adequate cash incentives for wage loss and a good amount of rest before and after childbirth.
- To ensure women get enough nutrition to sustain the childbirth and delivery of a healthy baby.

Features of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- The important feature of the PMMVY scheme is to provide an incentive of Rs.5000 with installments of Rs1000, Rs2000, and Rs.2000 directly into the account of pregnant women and lactating mothers.
- The registration process of the beneficiary can be done in Anganwadi centers of the Department of Women & Child Development.
- Pregnant wom can apply for the PMMVY scheme within 730 days from their Last Menstrual Period(LMP) that is subject to all the eligibility criteria.
- If the LMP date is not recorded in the MCP card, then the beneficiary must submit the claim within 460 days of childbirth.
- The remaining cash can be obtained towards the Janani Suraksha Yojana(JSY) by the Health Department after the delivery.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana scheme provides Monetary benefits to the beneficiary. Based on the installment number the beneficiary can claim their money.
- An incentive of Rs.1000 is given if the registration of the pregnancy is done within 150 days from the last menstrual cycle.
- The incentive of Rs.2000 can be claimed after 180 days of the last menstrual period.
- The incentive of Rs.2000 can be collected by the lactating mothers after the child’s birth.
- The nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating mothers are fulfilled by this PMMVY scheme since mothers need to consume at least 200 calories more than their daily requirement.
Eligibility of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
The eligibility criteria for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana are as follows
- The woman who is applying for PMMVY should be a citizen of India.
- The woman must be employed before she gets pregnant with the baby.
- The woman can apply for this scheme if she had experienced a salary loss because of pregnancy.
- Women can apply for this PMMVY scheme if she was not paid for their maternity.
- Women can apply for the PMMVY scheme, who got conceived on or after January 1, 2017.
How to Apply Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
- PMMVY can be applied by visiting an Anganwadi center or a health facility that is approved by the Government of India for the particular state/ union territory. This should be done within 150 days of LMP.
- Registration can also be done online by visiting the official website.
