Suryamitra Skill Development Programme For Youth
The Surya Mitra Skill Development Programme (SSDP) was set up by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MoNRE) in the year 2015. The priority on purifiers and endurable resources like solar energy and wind energy has been evolving in existing times. Endowed with the geographical advantage of plentiful sunshine throughout the year, India has acknowledged substantial steps to motivate the solar energy sector.
The objective of the Surya Mitra Skill Development Programme
The main purpose of the Surya Mitra Skill Development Program is to instruct the Suryamitra on the expansion and development schedule. Approximately around 50000 Surya Mitra were aimed to train within the year 2020.

Key Features
Let’s discuss about the salient features of The Surya Mitra Skill Development Programme:
- The mode of training for the trainees is to board at a specific hostel that are designed for them by the Host institute. Hence this is a residential training program.
- The program duration will be for 600 hours. That is the trainees have to stay for 90 days then assessment will be conducted for them to check their understanding.
- Trainees who succeed in the assessment will get a certificate for their exams.
- There are 30 trainees per batch in the program.
- The fee is free of cost for the trainees. The program does not charge any amount from the trainees.
- If any such security deposits are collected from the host University, then it will be given back or returned at the end of the session.
- The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MoNRE) takes care of the other expenses such as rupees 300 for the boarding of the trainees, rupees 25 per hour for the trainees, and rupees 800 for the assessment of the trainees.
- The curriculum was designed by the National Council of Vocational training (NCVT).
- Once in two weeks motivational lectures were planned for the trainees.
- Age criteria is that the trainees must be of 18.
- They should have also completed their 10th grade along with ITI certification mechanic, electrician, fitter, wireman, etc.
- Trainees with diploma certifications are also eligible to join the training program.
- But individuals with professional degrees like Btech or high qualification are not eligible for the program.
- Certified experienced electricians can participate in the program.
- According to their eligibility criteria one can apply for the program through online or offline based on the host institute.
- Women, unemployed individuals are given preference so as to improve their financial status.
Through the Surya Mitra Skill Development Programme the interpersonal skills of the youth are improved and also entrepreneurship is designed for them in the area of solar energy sector.
