What Is The Pudhumai Penn Scheme For Girl Students In Tamil Nadu?
The word Pudhumai Penn relates to the new generation of women. The scheme was initiated by the government of Tamil Nadu under the Department of social welfare and women empowerment.
The scheme was launched on September 5th 2002 by the chief minister of Tamilnadu, MK Stalin as Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education assurance scheme. It was said “Pudhumai Penn” to emotionally relate with the beneficiaries and to have a better reach.
A state-level steering committee consists of proper reviewing, monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the scheme. It is headed by the chief secretary and will meet twice in a year.
Objectives of the scheme

Benefits of the scheme
The amount of Rs 1000 will be transferred to the bank account of the students each month. The amount will be given till the completion of the course in which the student has enrolled.
The scheme supports students doing any professional, paramedical and also bachelors in any field. So, the student can get enrolled in any course as per their choice and eligibility to get benefits.
Eligibility
The scheme is available to all female students who have studied from classes 6 to 12 in the schools run by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The student must enrol in any of the undergraduate, Diploma or ITI programs to get benefitted.
The girls who have availed the benefits of the Right to education in privately run schools till class 8, and passed class 9 to 12 in government-run schools are eligible.
The beneficiaries of any other scheme of government and those receiving other scholarships can also avail the benefit of the Pudhumai Penn scheme.
The scheme does not benefit those studying in distance mode and it is not for students doing their postgraduate courses.
Ways to Apply
The deserving students can apply for the scheme using the online portal called Penkalvi.
The application is available in the portal. The students have to register themselves using their mobile number. It will be verified through OTP. The OTP has to be entered and the details asked must be filled with caution.
Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, community certificate, transfer certificate of the school, and bank Passbook should be uploaded along with the application form.
After the basic details, proceed button has to be clicked. The details of schools studied must be filled in, and much care must be taken while filling in the bank details. The application has to be previewed carefully before submission.
